Words of Wisdom

Things my friend, Prashant - who is working on a tsunami rehabilitation project in Tharangambadi, Tamil Nadu - has told me recently:

"I don't have good days and bad days anymore... I just have days."

"Ah man, one thing about being here, in this village/town, it has convinced me that men are just scum. The prejudice against woman is probably little worse then it is in the west, but without technology, money or shame to hide behind, it is revealed in all its chauvinistic glory."

"In Chinankudi, a woman lay outside our cooks house, crying hysterically. A huddle of woman stood by her, talking non-chanantly. Apparently her husband had attacked her. The woman continued joking and laughing, occasionally giving the lady some soda water to keep her calm. They seemed to take it in their stride, there was no outrage, little sympathy. This is how it is, get used to it."

some day soon I will bring out some of my own insightful words about subjects other than cockroaches!... but for now, i felt like prashant's observations mimicked so many of my own experiences here, and i wanted to share what someone else finds in his experience here...
